
Birdwatching in Cagliari
In all the wetlands and marshlands areas of Cagliari, birdwatching is a popular activity for all the people! So, let’s follow us in this post!

The capital of Sardinia is surrounded by wetlands areas of considerable naturalistic interest. These are all areas of European Community interest (SIC) therefore rigidly controlled and protected.
Molentargius Saline Park
Using the bicycle or by foot, from Ca ‘del Sol, you can discover the Molentargius Saline Park within just 5Km distance, through the pedestrian / bycycle path that runs along the Port, or by public bus PQ, PF that stops (Generale Rossi stop) at approx 1Km from the visitor center of Via La Palma, there you can rent a bike or enjoy a guide service by boat or train, both electric powered.
Disseminated in the park, there are countless turrets for the birdwatching, without being observed by birds and staying at the top for a breathtaking vision. We have prepared the itinerary for you, have a look.


Monti-Vecchi Saline
The Monti-Vecchi Saline, today is a park under the protection of the F.A.I. (italian heritage foundation), also there it is possible ask for a guide service with electric train: it is a really enjoyable experience between nature and the history of salt. Perfectly restored the management building and the laboratories, including the chemical lab which is almost a pearl!
The view, then, is breathtaking towards Cagliari especially at sunset. A car is recommended to reach the place, this is the itinerary we have prepared for you. You can visit the park website here.


Macchiareddu L.I.P.U. Oasis, perfect place for birdwatching in Cagliari.
Macchiareddu L.I.P.U. (Italian League for Bird Protection) Oasis is certainly the wilder area here, it is located along the national road SS 195 in the direction to Pula / Teulada.
It is situated over one of the Rio Cixerri mouths and it is also used like a fishing zone.
A consistent colony of Flamingos live there all year long. Follow this itinerary by car, the area is poorly signed, from this link.



These wetlands systems are closely related to the sea that surrounds the city, as you know, they are an authentic sanctuaries for the birds, many of these migrants, such as Pink Flamingo, Gray Heron, Red and Cattle-Egret, Common and Black Cormorant, Black-Winged Stilt, Gallinule, some Pelican (!!), Little Egret, Peregrine Falcon, White Spoonbill, Coot, Terns etc …
We are sure, you’ll be happy to observe with your birdwatching binoculars these birds that have chosen Cagliari to live in their natural situation.
