Centenary-old olive trees planted centuries ago by the inhabitants of the nearby village of
Villamassargia, still belonging by the heads of families who care about them, prune and harvest
the olives while riped.
Thirteen hectares with seven hundred ancient olive trees that represent an unique
place in the Med area! It is located on the slopes of the hill where the ancient
Castle of Gioiosa Guardia was built, one of the most important medieval manors in Sardinia,
belonged by the Pisan family of Della Gherardesca, easily accessible through a path that
climbs right from the park of S’Ortu Mannu.

It will be welcoming you! The amazing Sa Reina (the queen in Sardu language) of Sardinian olive trees, with its
52,50 feet of trunk circumference, it’s considered the largest olive tree in the Mediterranean!
Botanists believe it should be nine hundred years old!
Hug her, listen to her leaves dancing with the wind, enjoy this magical encounter with Earth Mother!
The gnarled centenary roots are like a hut, let’s crouch down and you will feel the flow of the time and the life
in those ancient arms that rise directly from the fragrant ground.
How to reach S’Ortu Mannu park from Cagliari.
Going out from Cagliari city, or from Ca ‘del Sol bed and breakfast, you can
easily reach out within an hour driving the S’Ortu Mannu Southern Sardinia centuries old
Olive Trees Park. The itinerary that we suggest you, heads through the lagoon of Santa Gilla,
an extraordinary place for bird watching lovers in Cagliari, the Cixerri lake,
the Castello di Acquafredda, fascinating and legendary castle, visits allowed most of the year,
and along the provincce road SP2, surrounded by nature and less busy than the freeway SS 130.

Getting to the S’Ortu Mannu Park on the last Sunday of October is a perfect idea for fully
enjoying the centenaries olive trees, during the olives harvest that turns into the festival
of ancient traditions called Sagra delle Olive. Villamassargia, in fact, is one of the most important
village in Sardinia about olives oil production.
